- The first 8 years of life is the critical developmental stage of our visual system
- Children should have a comprehensive eye examination at the age of 4
- Children aged below 4 should seek medical attention as early as possible if suspected of eye problem
Strabismus
- Strabismus (Convergent, Divergent or Vertical Squint) is a condition in which the eyes are misaligned, with the two eyes pointing towards different directions
Amblyopia (Lazy Eye)
- A lazy eye has abnormal vision and is not correctable by glasses only
- With no obvious symptoms, parents may not be aware the child is only seeing the world with one eye
- If not managed before the age of 8, lazy eye will become irreversible
Nearsightedness (Myopia)
- 40% of primary school children in Hong Kong suffer from Nearsightedness
- Progression is most significant between 6 to 12 years old
